Visas and Legal Stay
The Faculty of Arts does not verify whether international students have obtained their visa. The student visa is primarily important for you, as it allows you to stay legally in the Czech Republic for the duration of your studies.
The timing of obtaining your visa is therefore not crucial for the faculty. However, you must ensure that you obtain the appropriate visa or residence authorization so that you can legally stay in Czechia for longer than 90 days.
You may apply for the Czech student visa in the way that best suits your individual circumstances.
We do not provide assistance with obtaining a visa. It is the responsibility of each applicant to contact the Czech Embassy in their country.
Please find useful information about the visa application process at Student Visa – Charles University
Transfers and Previous Studies
Charles University does not process direct transfers between universities. You must go through the regular admission process and be accepted into the programme. Once accepted, it may be possible to discuss the recognition or transfer of credits from your previous university.
Yes, it is but you have to successfully pass the admission forcess for the Czech program.
Accommodation and Dormitories
We highly recommend that first-year students stay in university dormitories for at least one semester. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow students, become part of the student community, and have access to support when needed.
Please note that dormitories generally provide more basic accommodation and may not suit everyone’s preferences regarding comfort and amenities. Students looking for more privacy or higher-standard accommodation may prefer private housing.
Charles University also has recommendations and contacts for private accommodation. The university has an agreement with Mint Living; further information is available here:
Unfortunately, pets are generally not allowed in university dormitories. The only exception is animal assistance required for medical reasons. This must be confirmed by a doctor, and the animal must also have appropriate certification confirming its status as an assistance animal.
Health Insurance
Students from non-EU countries
Students from non-EU countries are required to have comprehensive health insurance for the entire duration of their stay in Czechia.
It is recommended to use insurance from a Czech provider, as some medical institutions may not accept insurance issued in another country. Charles University has agreements with two insurance providers. More information is available here:
Charles University health insurance information
Students from EU member countries
Students from EU member countries are required to register with an auxiliary health insurance company after arriving in Czechia. Through this supplementary arrangement, medical expenses may be reimbursed retrospectively by their home insurance provider.
